The Mayor of Perm Eduard Sosnin Meets with the Consul General of the Republic of India in Yekaterinburg

The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in economy, culture and education.

Developing international relations is a priority for Perm City Administration. The authorities see partnerships with other cities not only as a tool for strengthening the image of the capital of the Kama region, but also as an effective mechanism for addressing specific socio-economic development tasks, cultural exchange and the implementation of joint educational programmes.

On June 9, the Mayor of Perm Eduard Sosnin met with Chattopadhyay Debabrata, the Consul General of the Republic of India in Yekaterinburg. The parties discussed the potential for developing cooperation in economic, cultural and educational spheres.

The Mayor of Perm Eduard Sosnin welcomed the guest and emphasised that Perm is open to building long-term and mutually beneficial partnerships with cities abroad as a major industrial, scientific and cultural centre.

“Our city strives for the establishing a strong partnership with cities within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states. This is a promising direction for international relations that can bring mutual benefits and strengthen humanitarian cooperation in the fields of urban development, culture and education,” said the Mayor of Perm.

The delegation of the Republic of India viewed a video presentation about Perm. Guests were briefed on key competitive advantages of our city. Special attention was paid to opportunities for joint investment projects and cultural and educational exchanges.

In response The Consul General of the Republic of India in Yekaterinburg Chattopadhyay Debabrata expressed gratitude for the reception. He noted that Perm Krai is one of India’s key partner regions in the Urals. The Consul General emphasised the growing interest of Indian businesses in the Russian market and outlined promising areas for cooperation, including education, sport and culture. Furthermore, he expressed his readiness to facilitate these initiatives, noting that today’s visit marked the beginning of joint work.

During the meeting, the participants discussed practical steps for establishing direct business contacts between Perm enterprises and Indian companies. They also deliberated on issues related to tourism development and holding joint cultural events. Perm City Administration is interested in establishing a partnership with cities of the Republic of India. In particular, this includes the organisation of a business mission of Perm enterprises to India, participation of Indian teams in international sports events in Perm, establishment of friendly contacts between schools of the two countries and realisation of joint lessons and master classes in both offline and online formats.

Further to the meeting, the participants agreed to maintain direct contact and to work through the proposals put forward during the meeting.
